The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center's (CERDEC) Army Power Division, has approved a limited safety assessment report (SAR) for UltraCell's XX25 reformed methanol fuel cell system. The report certifies that the XX25, a 25 W mobile fuel cell system, is safe to use and may be worn by soldiers in the field and used to power portable devices. The SAR is necessary in order to qualify the unit in limited field trials this summer, and approval of the SAR is a first across the fuel cell community.
