This deployment will be the first pre-WiMAX standards system in China. The network will use core technology and FastSwitching/OFDMA-based equipment from Adaptix to form a cellular-architecture, full coverage network in the ShiJinShan area. The network will provide key infrastructure for the new Beijing Digital Entertainment Demo Center in ShiJinShan district, established jointly by the Beijing Science & Technology Committee and the ShiJinShan District Government.

"This agreement signifies the growing realization and demand for wireless broadband support in metropolitan areas as well as rural communities," stated Vern Fotheringham, Adaptix' CEO.

The network will be built with a fiber backbone connecting the Adaptix broadband wireless base stations to provide broadband access services. Its objective is to enhance communications capabilities within the new Digital Entertainment Demo Center and to serve as the service delivery platform for business operations and center management. The network will support multiple services and applications essential to the further development of the center. Such services and applications will include research and development, networking, Web-based training, e-commerce and business management.

The demo network will provide a fully covered wireless broadband environment for the whole ShiJinShan District, providing anywhere connection for the government and industry users with Internet access and VPN services. It will be the wireless broadband mobile network platform for e-government, e-business and e-commerce, as well as for applications such as community security and traffic monitoring and more.
