Connor-Winfield purchases AG Communication Systems’ manufacturing facility, assets
The Connor-Winfield Corporation today announced that it is purchasing from AG Communication Systems (AGCS) its manufacturing facility in Genoa, Illinois. AGCS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lucent Technologies Inc. and in April, 2004, Lucent announced the facility would close. The terms of the transaction between Connor-Winfield and AGCS were not disclosed.
This purchase will merge these new assets together with those of the Custom Manufacturing Services (CMS) Division of Connor-Winfield to form a new division of Connor-Winfield that will be named Advanced Global Manufacturing Services. The existing CMS Division is skilled in a variety of technologies, including thick film, wire and die bonding, and hybrids. Customers include clients in the military, instrumentation, telecom, and medical industries. CMS was organized to market these capabilities to OEMs, specializing in quick turnaround on prototypes and pilot runs, and it was able to respond efficiently to complex project runs.
Under AGCS ownership, the Genoa facility’s operations had been certified for ISO-TS 16949 automotive compliance certification, an internationally recognized quality management system certification. Connor-Winfield plans to have the facility’s operations re-certified for ISO-TS 16949 as part of its strategic marketing plan to emphasize the automotive industry as a target market.
“We at Connor-Winfield are pleased about the acquisition of AGCS assets. Re-certifying the facility’s operations for the ISO-TS 16949 quality management system certification will support us in offering the highest quality of manufacturing services to the automotive industry," states Daniel R Olp, general manager of the Connor-Winfield Corporation. “We’re eager to build a new market for our manufacturing services and look forward to the role that Advanced Global Manufacturing Services will play in the overall services available from Connor-Winfield."
