U.S. Army global IP management and domain service upgrade is complete
Lucent Technologies has completed an upgrade of the U.S. Army's global IP management and domain name service infrastructure. The task was performed for the Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM) in Fort Huachuca, Ariz.
NETCOM provides network operations for more than 1.25 million civilian and military users worldwide and is the underpinning for all of the Army's data, voice, and video services. The Lucent-designed infrastructure manages more than 1.75 million Internet protocol (IP) records and is distributed to more than 300 global servers.
The software that enables the efficient administration of IP services is designed specifically for large-scale enterprise customers. It provides access to the public Internet, while protecting the internal infrastructure. Lucent also provided a broad range of system engineering, program management and training services.
"The scope of this project was extremely complex, and each of the moving pieces needed to perform flawlessly," says Rick Miller, president of Government Solutions at Lucent Technologies.
"By creating a highly specialized team we were able to deliver a major system modernization without one second of service disruption for the 1.25 million end-users spread around the globe," he adds.
