Two Technologies Boost Cost Efficiency In Remote Areas
A pair of technologies from Altobridge targets the costs mobile carriers face attempting to deliver voice and data services to small-enterprise and domestic communities in remote regions. The company’s Local Connectivity solution eliminates transmission costs incurred when local calls are backhauled. Simultaneously, the Split-BSC Architecture frees up capacity by restricting the use of expensive satellite bandwidth, employing it only “on-demand” instead of “always on.”
A paper presented on Sept. 10 at AmericasCom in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, illustrates how these technologies combine to create a cost-effective solution for remote communities. Presented by Monte Egeland, Altobridge’s vice president for the Americas, the paper outlines the comparative savings that can be expected by carriers when using the standard 1 TRX IP GSM over VSAT installation versus those using the Altobridge solution. Potential savings per site run into the tens of thousands of dollars, according to the company.
“When combined, these two breakthrough technologies offer MNOs (mobile network operators) throughout Latin America the chance to benefit from the most operationally efficient communications solution for small—between 50 and 500 subscribers—remote communities currently available,” said Egeland.
