Broadband developer joins OBSAI
ADAPTIX has joined the Open Base Station Architecture Initiative (OBSAI), an organization formed to create open specifications for base station architectures. ADAPTIX offers OFDMA-based microcell base stations that deliver 802.16e-compliant mobile WiMAX services.
OBSAI has just released a full set of interface, hardware and test specifications compatible with all of the main air interface standards (GSM, GSM/EDGE, WCDMA, CDMA and WiMAX). By standardizing base station modules, manufacturers can focus their differentiation efforts within the base station. Such a plan encourages continuing innovation and increasingly cost-effective products.
By defining a basic modular architecture and the detailed specifications for the internal interfaces among modules, OBSAI promotes an open market for base station modules. Benefits include access to more cost-competitive, standardized products and the ability to bring new and advanced services to market more quickly.
