Air Broadband obtained patent on fast handover technology for WiMAX/Wi-Fi
Air Broadband Communications has announced that the U.S. Patent Office has granted a patent for one of its main IP wireless technologies. The U.S. Patent No. 7,016,682, hybrid wireless access bridge and mobile access router system and method, provides wireless devices to roam seamlessly between IP domains of same or different types of wireless networks.
This technology, called Soft-Roaming, is used in Air Broadband’s product line of PiMAX access control router and base station for the IEEE 802.16 WiMAX and Airobatics WLAN switch and access point, which are based on IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN.
"This patent covers the mechanism of fast wireless IP handover in homogeneous and heterogeneous wireless environment between Wi-Fi, WiMAX and CDMA wireless networks," said Kenneth Kang, CTO and president. Soft-Roaming is an essential technology of wireless IP in trend.
Air Broadband has also filed six more patents that are unique to the field of wireless IP such as user movement prediction algorithm in wireless environment, IP pool sharing mechanism in mobile environment, and IP Tri-cast mechanism for low latency and low data loss handover in wireless network.
