AMOLED Displays Set To Explode In Smart-Phone Market
Reportedly becoming the more popular display for smart phones, high-end Androids in particular, active-matrix organic LEDs (AMOLEDs) will see their global shipments expand by as much as a factor of six from 2010 to 2015, says IHS iSuppli. According to the research firm, AMOLED displays offer a wider viewing angle, higher refresh rates, and thinner formats that the conventional LCDs used in most cell phones, providing the boost in popularity. The researchers also believe the adoption of AMOLEDs also is being propelled by increasing manufacturing capacity from Samsung Mobile Display, a leading supplier of AMOLED displays. Global unit shipments of AMOLEDs are expected climb to 271.2 million units in 2015, rising at a 40.6% percent compound annual growth rate from 49.4 million units in 2010.
