Three-stage, balanced power amplifier and complementary driver-amplifier cover 43.5 to 46.5 GHz
A chip set that produces more than +26 dB of gain and 1 W of output power has been introduced by Mimix Broadband Inc. of Houston, TX. The set comprises a gallium-arsenide (GaAs), three-stage balanced power amplifier and a complementary three-stage driver amplifier. The balanced power amplifier and driver amplifier, identified as the 44MPA0478 and the 44MPA0470 respectively, are well suited for wireless communications applications such as millimeter-wave, point-to-point radio, local multipoint distribution services (LMDS), and SATCOM applications.
Both devices are tooled in 0.15-micron, gate-length, GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) technology. The power amplifier is a balanced design that achieves a good output match and covers the 43.5 GHz to 46.5 GHz frequency band, providing a small signal gain of 13 dB with a +29 dBm P1dB compression point. The driver amplifier covers this same band, delivering a small signal gain of 13 dB with a +24 dBm P1dB compression point.
