Apple Oils Over Ericsson For Mobile Market Position
In their regular quarterly report, researchers at DisplaySearch claim Apple has bumped Sony Ericsson in the second quarter of 2010 to join the top five mobile phone manufacturers. The statistical firm points to the demand for larger and higher-resolution displays in cell phones as the primary cause for this phenomenon.
According to the report, as a result of the growing iPhone success, Apple overtook Sony Ericsson to become the number five global mobile phone manufacturer on a shipment basis with a 3.1% share, up 127% quarter to quarter and 28% year to year from the first quarter of 2010.
