Chipset solution delivers seamless mobility to Mobile WiMAX devices
Beceem Communications has announced the selection of its latest chipset for mobile WiMAX devices as one of the chipsets that broadband pioneer Clearwire Corporation is working with for its mobile WiMAX trial in Portland, Ore. Beceem’s leading chipset solution is powering a family of PC peripheral WiMAX devices to provide a true mobile broadband Internet experience on laptop computers.
“We are pleased to partner with Clearwire to broaden the scope of available mobile devices for their WiMAX trial,” said Shahin Hedayat, Beceem’s CEO and co-founder. “Working closely with Clearwire on its WiMAX network allowed us to optimize the performance of our devices in the field to the point where subscribers will be able to enjoy a level of mobile performance that truly deserves the next-generation label.”
“Clearwire is building one of the most capable wireless broadband networks in the world, and Beceem is helping us to accelerate mobile testing to end users,” said Scott Richardson, chief strategy officer, Clearwire. “Clearwire and Beceem share a common goal of establishing a broad ecosystem of interoperable mobile WiMAX devices. The family of PC peripheral devices powered by Beceem’s chipset is helping to deliver a robust, seamless true broadband experience on the go.”
The trial in Portland is one of the largest mobile WiMAX network trials in the country, encompassing approximately 145 square miles and more than 40 base stations.
