New connector for tight-jacketed cables
Tyco Electronics has introduced a new SC and LC connector design for tight-jacketed cable applications. These connectors are a non pull-proof design, created to address the specific needs of tight-jacketed cable construction. The SC and LC connectors were originally designed for pull-proof applications and required the buffer to move independently of the fiber jacket. When used with tight-jacketed cables, standard SC and LC connectors can induce a micro-bend, which would lead to increased insertion loss or fiber breakage. However, with the new design, the termination assures that the jacket and buffer move together.
Initial samples of the SC and LC tight-jacketed connectors, in multimode and single-mode fiber versions, are available.
