Software Firm Powers First Consumer Electronics Devices Designed for Easy Integration on a Wireless Home Network
Devicescape Software announced its central role in enabling Sharp Electronics to design and develop wireless devices that are compatible and operate easily on home networks. For the first time, consumers can use Sharp home electronics products to access images, video, audio and the Internet from anywhere in their home via Wi-Fi. The recently announced LCD IT-TV, Network Media Player and Galileo Personal Server from Sharp make this wireless vision possible by providing the essential cornerstones of a Wi-Fi home entertainment network.
Market research firm iSuppli projects that by 2009, nearly 155 million consumer electronics devices will be able to connect to wireless networks. Given the convenience and low cost of Wi-Fi, experts predict the home will become the next big hotspot. With the proliferation of broadband connections and digital media, consumers are demanding the ability to access and share digital entertainment among multiple wireless devices in the home. For example, consumers want to listen to their MP3 music collections throughout the home, not just while sitting in front of their PCs.
Additionally, with the impending roll-out of the IPTV as part of the service provider "quadruple play," consumers also want to view video contentregardless of what room they are inwithout incurring the high cost and complexity of installing new cabling.
However, until now, it has proven difficult to effortlessly set up a wireless home network with multiple compatible devices. Devicescape addresses this challenge by providing consumer electronics manufacturers like Sharp with software that makes these devices easy to use and capable of working together on the wireless home network.
