Article Tools

Fujitsu Network Communications has announced the availability of a new metro wireless mesh solution for North American telecom carriers, cable/MSO operators, utilities and municipalities. This end-to-end, turnkey solution combines highly regarded Wi-Fi mesh products from BelAir Networks and comprehensive professional services from Fujitsu to create a unique wireless solution that integrates seamlessly within current infrastructure and operations.

"The combination of Fujitsu services and BelAir Networks products makes it simpler for carriers, cable operators and cities to leverage wireless mesh technology for the benefit of citizens, subscribers, government employees and public safety personnel," said Tara Howard, broadband access technologies analyst, Yankee Group. "Both companies have demonstrated a strong commitment to the cable/MSO space, which further underscores the significant role that cable operators will play in mesh networking within North America."

The IEEE 802.11a point-to-point backhaul radios within the products operate within the 5.0 GHz to 5.8 GHz unlicensed band, providing dedicated and isolated wireless backhaul links. The products support IEEE 802.11b/g access at maximum power output and optimized sensitivities. The product solution can be wall-, rooftop-, tower-, pole- or strand-mounted for maximum flexibility and they support a variety of line interfaces, including Ethernet (10/100Base-T and 100Base-FX), T1 and data over cable service interface specification (DOCSIS).

"Fujitsu is always looking for ways to improve the broadband access experience for service providers and their customers," said Jim Hintze, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. “The ubiquitous nature of Wi-Fi in consumer devices makes having a robust wireless solution based on IEEE 802.11a/b/g a valuable component of any wireless product portfolio. However, our solution goes well beyond a simple product strategy. We believe that our end-to-end wireless strategy, which features best-in-class products, a full suite of professional services, and a seamless systems integration experience, gives us an optimal solution for the North American market."
