New WiMAX 802.16e gateways extend indoor coverage
SOMA Networks Inc. has introduced the FlexMAX MS-G100 gateway, a series of indoor, self-installable wireless broadband gateways based on the 802.16e-2005 standard.
Offering all the advantages of standards-based broadband consumer devices, the sleek multifunction subscriber gateways, from the FlexMAX Mobile WiMAX family, use three types of antenna technologies for unrivaled non-line-of-sight (NLOS) coverage range and greater indoor penetration.
With fully integrated voice and fax capabilities, plus multimegabit broadband access, the MS-G100 gateway is designed to support Wave 1 and Wave 2 Mobile WiMAX functionality, offering advanced radio and multi-antenna technology to increase the reach of Mobile WiMAX services and enable carriers to deliver the highest-quality broadband-to-the-home experience to their customers.
According to SOMA, the MS-G100 gateway incorporates 802.16e-2005 technology and chipsets, resulting in the first Mobile WiMAX multifunction gateway to couple industry-leading coverage range and low power consumption, with the processing power to handle advanced wireless technology and multiservice broadband offerings.
Featuring increased transmit power of up to 27 dBm, this 3 dBm to 4 dBm increase in power provides a 25% or more, increase in cell radius, which translates into a one-third reduction in the number of base stations required.
The MS-G100 hateway series is part of the FlexMAX Mobile WiMAX family of mobile station products. The self-provisioning gateway includes options for up to four ethernet ports and two analog jacks for connecting telephones and fax machines.
Dual antennas offer the range and performance of a portable gateway, enabling subscribers to move the device between home and office or any location within the carrier’s coverage area, and receive superior in-building coverage. To access broadband services, subscribers simply connect their various multimedia devices to the mobile station and turn the power on. In turn, service providers can ensure an optimal user experience by using the mobile stations’ built-in router to provide multiple, simultaneous services to customers.
MS-G100 functionality includes an intelligent gateway, which enables service providers to offer tiered broadband speeds and POTS quality telephone service options, without the need for professional installation, special wiring, or externally mounted antennas. This means dramatically reduced customer support calls for the service provider and no professional installation costs. The new series of MS-G100 gateways support a wide range of licensed frequency bands including: 2.3 GHz to 2.4 GHz, 2.5 GHz to 2.7 GHz and 3.3 GHz to3.7 GHz.
