Xirrus Inc. announced that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has purchased Xirrus Wi-Fi arrays, management system and security modules for deployment throughout the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG) to support a worldwide conference expected to attract more than 2,000 participants in October 2007.

“Xirrus was selected because they were best able to meet the rigorous requirements to support our upcoming conferences,” said Pradeep Prasad, Head Infrastructure Division, International Telecommunication Union. “The capacity, coverage and upgradability to 802.11n will enable ITU to deploy a scalable, long-lasting Wi-Fi infrastructure at the CICG.”

“We are excited to be deployed at such an historic location as the International Conference Center in Geneva,” said John DiGiovanni, regional director of sales and marketing for EMEA at Xirrus. “We were able to provide them with the equipment they needed for a future-proof Wi-Fi network and are committed to delivering the most technologically advanced and powerful Wi-Fi solution worldwide.”

In a network designed by Wireless LAN Source, Xirrus’ pan-European partner, the state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network will support the thousands of users that frequent the CICG and will use many of Xirrus’ advanced features, including its patent-pending Sharp Cell technology. Preparation and installation of the Xirrus Wi-Fi network is being carried out during the months of August and September, with installation and cabling support provided by Sedelec SA.

“We designed a fully manageable and high-performing Wi-Fi network for the CICG, ensuring the network will be able to support the thousands of users that utilize the landmark facility,” said Ben Wilson, commercial director at Wireless LAN Source. “Xirrus has a proven track record of deploying in large-scale, high-density locations like the CICG, and we are honored to be a part of this deployment.”
