SiTel Processor Picked For DECT Phones
Gigaset Communications has incorporated the SC14450 baseband processor from SiTel Semiconductor in Gigaset’s premium SL780 and SL785 cordless DECT handsets. The phones employ the processor’s power to provide full-duplex hands-free operation, high-definition audio using CAT-iq and Gigaset’s HDSP technology, and an ECO DECT mode to reduce power consumption.
This design-in extends the successful cooperation between Gigaset Communications and SiTel. The new handsets offer numerous features, including a color TFT display, a Bluetooth headset connection, and PC syncing via Bluetooth or USB.
Based on SiTel’s proven multicore architecture, the SC14450 features a 16-bit CompactRISC processor plus two user-programmable Gen2DSPs. It delivers 240 MIPS of processing power, which is enough to run applications including MP3, full-duplex wideband audio for hands-free use, TCP/IP, high-end graphics displays, and more. This DSP performance makes the SC14450 well-suited for high-end DECT/CAT-iq handsets.
In addition, the SC14450 supports a variety of external memories. It also features an integrated class D amplifier, power and battery management options, a white LED driver, and a wide variety of peripheral interfaces including master/slave PCM, UART, SPI, dual-access bus, and USB client.
CAT-iq is a new global technology for broadband home connectivity. Based on the regulative rules of the mature and reliable DECT standard, it supports consumer products for wireless home communication, information, and entertainment.
