Mobile Handset Manufacturers May Stall In The Shadow Of Smart Phones
If recent IHS iSuppli research is on the money, mobile-handset manufacturers face stagnating growth in their market space. This, as per the research, is due to a combination of the lingering economic recession and rising smart-phone sales. Contract manufacturers in the global cell-phone market can expect to hold on to less than 30% of their share of the wireless handset market during the next four years. According to IHS iSuppli calculations, contract manufacturers accounted for 25.2% of global cell-phone shipments in 2009, down from 27% in 2008. The researchers claim that the impact of this reduction will be long-lasting, with the percentage of cell phones shipped by contract manufacturers reaching 28% by 2014. So essentially the question is if cell-phone makers will continue on this path, tool up for smart-phone development, or innovate on another level.
