Memory Cards Provide Mobile Phones Multimedia Services
A new technology for mobile phones enables mobile network operators to use removable flash memory cards to offer customers multimedia-rich services. SanDisk Corp. and LG Electronics demonstrated the technology on LG’s KC910 Renoir. The preloaded content in the cards can only be used on approved handsets, ensuring access security for premium services.
SanDisk and LG Electronics worked closely to implement this new technology on the KC910 handset. SanDisk’s unique technology brings flexible storage-based services to network operators by allowing IP connectivity to the memory card in the handset. The memory card serves as a network node that is remotely manageable by the operator using industry-standard TCP/IP and the OMA Smart Card Web Server (SCWS) standard. LG’s use of the OMA SCWS standard allows the subscriber’s SIM card to be used as an authorization server.
