MetroFi selects ADC's service gateway to deploy Wi-Fi networks In California municipalities

ADC announced that MetroFi Inc. is deploying ADC's SG-1 service gateway in its Wi-Fi network that currently provides wireless Internet services for customers in Cupertino, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, Calif. MetroFi's Wi-Fi network is also being expanded into other communities across the country.

The SG-1 service gateway is the first carrier-class gateway product to offer dynamic "on-the-fly" service creation capabilities. Ideally suited for WLAN and other broadband ATM or IP-based networks (DSL, cable, dial-up), the SG-1 allows service providers to add an intelligent layer of value-added services. Service providers can now profitably offer differentiated services and content to individual users based on their user profile.

The SG-1's innovative technology allows bandwidth-on-demand, application awareness (VoIP), creation of walled gardens, IP filtering, and enforcement of several different subscriber policies and security, including spam throttling, on any individual user session. Its unique drop-in-architecture allows the product to co-exist with any existing network or web technology. Designed for central office or distributed, remote customer premises environments, the SG-1's access control features, combined with dynamic interactive service capabilities, support from 1,000 to 64,000 concurrent users on one 16-slot system.

MetroFi delivers free Internet access services supported by banner advertising from local and national advertisers. Customers who want an Internet access experience without ads can connect to the MetroFi network premium service at approximately $20 per month.
