Microwave supplier receives ISO certification for EMS
K&L Microwave Inc., part of Dover Corporation’s Microwave Products Group, has received ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system (EMS). Implementing an ISO-certified EMS improves K&L’s ability to manage environmental issues, and demonstrates sound environmental management.
According to the manufacturer, ISO 14001 is a voluntary standard that enables an organization to develop and execute an effective environmental policy. It provides a framework of policies and practices for the prevention of pollution, regulatory compliance, and continual environmental improvement.
“ISO 14001 is the world’s most recognized EMS framework. Putting its standards into place gives K&L a pro-active, systematic approach to managing environmental issues,” says Greg Carmean, director of sales and marketing for K&L Microwave. “Our employees and customers can be assured that the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes, products and services is continually and consistently addressed.”
To achieve this certification, K&L established an internal EMS team to identify, measure and manage regulated, as well as unregulated environmental impacts. The team regularly communicates these impacts to management and employees, and offers solutions and procedures for improvement.
“K&L is committed to proper management of environmental issues,” added Carmean. “The newly adopted EMS complements our existing environmental policy, which focuses on increasing environmental awareness, reducing our overall impact on the environment, protecting the health and safety of our workers, and supporting the community at large.”
K&L has a number of quality and environmental initiatives including ISO 9000:2001 certification and lean manufacturing. The company also offers extensive training for all personnel on environmental management and systems.
