Mobile WiMAX baseband and RF reference design on a PCMCIA card
SEQUANS Communications has announced the general availability of its 802.16e mobile WiMAX chips. The mobile station chip, the SQN1110, features the industry’s lowest power consumption, drawing a mere 350mW of power, and delivers a throughput of more than 10 Mbps. The chip integrates both physical (PHY) and media access control (MAC) layers and offers WiMAX consumer device manufacturers the functionalities necessary to achieve WiMAX Forum certification.
Sequans has developed a reference design combining its SQN1110 baseband with the MAX2837 RFIC from Maxim. The solution is fully tested and includes all drivers as well as support for calibration and manufacturing. The combined Sequans/Maxim solution is first appearing in PCMCIA cards operating in the 2.3 GHz to 2.7 GHz frequency band. A 3.5 GHz solution will be available in November.
Sequans and its OEM/ODM partners and customers are planning to release additional devices, including PCI Express mini cards, ExpressCards, USB dongles, SDIO modules, fixed CPEs, and mobile handsets in the near future.
