Motorola And Verizon Counter iPhone 4 With Droid X
As Apple rolls out its iPhone 4 this week, Verizon Wireless and Motorola hope to steal some of its thunder with their Droid X. The device boasts high-speed Web browsing, a 1-GHz processor, 3G mobile hotspot capabilities, expanded memory, intuitive social messaging, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 readiness, access to Android Market and its 65,000 applications, and Verizon Wireless apps like NFL Mobile, Skype mobile, V Cast video, and EA Need for Speed Shift. Additionally, enterprise users can take advantage of its push e-mail and live widgets for e-mail and calendar features.
The Droid X includes a 4.3-in. high-resolution screen, which benefits the Blockbuster On Demand feature presented by V Cast Video. Its video capabilities also combine a dual-flash, 8-Mpixel camera, HD camcorder, and DLNA and HDMI connectivity to download, stream, and share personal HD content. Further, Droid X customers will receive Android 2.2 and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 with an over-the-air update in the latter half of the summer. The update will enable mobile users to experience sites with rich applications and content inside the browser, including games, animations, rich Internet applications (RIAs), data presentations and visualizations, e-commerce, music, and video.
Once updated to Android 2.2, Droid X will support Exchange and Gmail for business. Also, it offers live widgets that stream messages to the home screen, filter widgets to differentiate work and home e-mail, and a corporate directory and Global look-up along with a unified calendar for enterprise and sync with Google Calendar. Security protocols allow remote password control and wipe via the Exchange server.

The Droid X will be available beginning July 15 for $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. In addition to subscribing to a Nationwide Talk plan or Nationwide Talk & Text plan, which begin at $39.99 monthly, customers also will need to subscribe to an Email and Web for Smartphone plan, which starts at $29.99 monthly. Customers can add 3G Mobile Hotspot service for $20 per month. With this feature, customers can turn their Droid X into a wireless modem for up to five compatible Wi-Fi devices.
