Multimode Devices Allow Mobility Between LTE, HSPA Networks

Article Tools

ST-Ericsson has achieved mobility between Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSPA) networks using a multimode device, the company says. The device was powered by the ST-Ericsson’s M710 platform and tested in live networks in Stockholm, Sweden.

Using the device, ST-Ericsson was able to make a broadband data call in an LTE network and hand it over to an HSPA network. Multimode devices like this will make the transition to LTE networks easier and faster, the company says.

The device and networks used in the interoperability were in compliance with industry standards for commercial deployment, the 3GPP Release 8 March baseline. ST-Ericsson’s M710 chipsets are available now for use in commercial devices.
