New VCOs feature divide-by-2 and divide-by-4 outputs
Hittite Microwave has introduced three SMT MMIC voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) that exhibit low phase noise and deliver high-output power for point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, VSAT, military and test equipment applications from 9.5 GHz to 12.4 GHz.
The HMC530LP5(E), HMC512LP5(E), and HMC582LP5(E) GaAs HBT MMIC VCOs tune from 9.5 to 10.8, 9.6 to 10.8, and 11.1 to 12.4 GHz respectively. Output power and phase-noise performance are excellent over temperature, shock and process due to the oscillator's monolithic structure. This family of VCOs, which integrates resonators, negative resistance devices, and varactor diodes, features fundamental, divide-by 2- and divide-by-4 outputs. For added flexibility, the divide-by-4 prescaler function can be disabled to conserve current when not required. These fully-integrated VCOs, which require no external components, deliver an output power of +9 dBm to +11 dBm, yet exhibit a SSB phase noise of only -110 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset.
The VCOs are housed in RoHS-compliant, footprint-compatible 5 mm x 5 mm, leadless SMT packages and consume 330 mA to 350 mA from a single +5V supply.
Hittite Microwave Corporation is a designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal ICs, modules and subsystems for RF, microwave and millimeter-wave applications covering dc to 110 GHz.
