Emerging Wireless Technology e-newsletter adds wireless deployment section
With this issue of Emerging Wireless Technology (EWT), a new section of coverage has been added to showcase the deployment of wireless technologies. Even though this particular ‘beat’ could be covered in the Business Briefs or Industry News sections, the volume of wireless deployment activity news around the world easily justifies a section of its own.
Prior to the opening of this new section, much of the deployment news has been passed over just because of sheer volume and the need to accommodate business and industry news stories first.
In this new section, readers are given a grandstand view of the emergence race between Wi-Fi, WiMAX and xG cellular networks. It makes the scope of deployment visible and reveals the global hunger for wireless broadband services regardless of national status or stage of development.
Catching my eye while developing this issue of EWT was the headline 'Sri Lanka Telecom Trialing Aperto Networks WiMAX Gear.' Having spent nearly three years in Sri Lanka, I was intrigued with this sign of advanced development in a nation with ancient roots. I was in Sri Lanka during the late '70s when TV was just coming into the country. Small shops proudly displayed TVs illuminated with snowy screens long before TV transmitters were in place. Not to be left behind, Sri Lanka is pressing forward with the world’s most advanced broadband wireless technology. I’m not at all surprised--it is a nation of beautiful people with brilliant minds.
So, that’s just one example of the worldwide deployment of wireless technology--from small towns to the metropolises of the world, you will read all about it in our new Wireless Deployment section. Don’t miss an issue as we reveal the who, what and where in wireless deployment.
