PAs And Power Platform Advance Next-Gen Smart Phones
RF Micro Devices is ramping up production of multiple 3G/4G power amplifiers (PAs), and the PowerSmart power platform in support of two smart-phone families manufactured by a North America-based company. The RF724x UMTS/HSPA+ PAs are single-mode 3G/4G devices delivering peak efficiencies from 48% to 51%. Addressing common UMTS/HSPA+ frequency bands and combinations, they cover WCDMA bands 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8. The PowerSmart power platform features a RF configurable power core that delivers multiband, multi-mode coverage of all cellular communications modulation schemes including GSM/GPRS, EDGE, EDGE Evolution, CDMA, 3G (TD-SCDMA or WCDMA), and 4G (HSPA+, LTE or WiMAX). The RF core complies with all current and known future 4G data standards, i.e., HSPA+, LTE QPSK, LTE 16QAM, and LTE 64QAM. PowerSmart also includes all necessary switching and signal conditioning functionality in a compact reference design, providing a single scalable source for the entire cellular front end.
