Advanced Power Technology Europe has announced a line of fast-diode power modules in SP4 and SP6 packages for high-power and high-frequency applications. These modules are offered in a bridge rectifier configuration in SP4 and SP6 packages; and in dual, common-anode; dual, common-cathode; and dual-diode configurations in an SP6 package.

The low (17 mm) profile of the SP4 and SP6 packages minimizes parasitic inductance and is compatible in height with MOSFET and IGBT modules, making assembly of the fast diodes rectifiers and corresponding power switches very simple. The SP4 package has solder terminals whereas the SP6 module provides M5 screw connections.

All these modules incorporate fast-recovery diodes with voltage ratings from 200 V to 1700 V. In particular, the 600 V, 1000 V, and 1200 V versions use the latest, very-fast, soft-recovery, DQ-series diodes. Both the 100-ampere and 200-ampere bridge rectifiers are housed in SP4 and SP6 packages, respectively; while the various dual-diode configurations in SP6 packages are supplied in 400-ampere versions.

Typical applications for this family of diodes are as high-speed rectifiers in high-frequency converters and welding systems. They can also be used as free-wheeling diodes in high-power converters. Pricing for 1000-piece quantity ranges from $30 to $70. Samples are available; lead time for volume quantities is eight to 12 weeks.
