New products to easily integrate Wi-Fi telephony

SMC Networks has announced the availability of products to complement the company’s Wi-Fi phones: two cradles that keep phones charged and ready; one of which has an integrated wireless access point -- the first accessories of their kind to support the full integration of Wi-Fi telephony into the home or office.

The SMCDPCR Wi-Fi phone cradle and SMCDPCR-AP cradle/access point are available in December at MSRPs of $19.99 and $69.99, respectively. SMC’s Skype-enabled Wi-Fi phone has been available since August, at an MSRP of $179.99.

Both of SMC’s new Wi-Fi phone accessories offer users a great way to store and charge their SMC Wi-Fi phones conveniently in the home or office. Their sleek, compact design makes the SMCDPCR WiFi phone charger and the SMCDPCR-AP Wi-Fi phone charger with built-in 802.11g wireless access point perfect for keeping Wi-Fi phones charged and ready on the desktop. An LED on the front of each tells users that the phone is properly seated in the cradle and charging, and additional LEDs on the SMCDPCR-AP indicate the presence of LAN and Internet signals.

The functionality of the SMCDPCR-AP serves double-duty: as a charger/cradle, it keeps the phone charged and ready; and the 10/100 Mb Ethernet port on the back of the device turns it into an 802.11g access point, so that users have a close-by and optimal signal for VoIP calling and nearby wireless clients can access the network through it as well.

To ensure optimal performance for voice calls over the Internet while still serving regular clients, the SMCDPCR-AP has two SSIDs: one just for VoIP calls, and the other for regular wireless clients. And, a quick and easy setup wizard and easy-to-use Web-based management combined with industry-leading WPA and WPA2 security make it easy and secure.
