AuthenTec provides biometric fingerprint security for notebook PC
AuthenTec has announced that Fujitsu Computer Systems is embedding fingerprint sensors from AuthenTec into its LifeBook Q2010 high-end notebook PC — expanding its use of biometric security across its line of mobile computers. Fujitsu integrated the EntréPad 2501A swipe sensor from AuthenTec with a trusted platform module (TPM) 1.2 to provide advanced security.
The sensor replaces the need for passwords allowing authorized users to easily and quickly access their favorite computer applications or Internet web sites by sliding their finger across the sensor surface. At the same time, the sensor restricts access to the computer and its files to only those enrolled — reducing the risk of theft or fraud.
The sensor features AuthenTec's TruePrint and TrueMatch technologies, the only solution in production that reads fingerprints below the surface of the skin — enabling the sensor to read virtually every fingerprint, anywhere.
