Bluetooth nodes to top 1.4 billion by 2005
Annual shipments of Bluetooth-enabled devices are projected to reach over 1.4 billion nodes in 2005, up from 56 million in 2001, according to Allied Business Intelligence (ABI), Oyster Bay, NY.
The rise will represent a vast silicon market opportunity with semiconductor revenues of $5.3 billion by 2005. In that same year, ABI forecasts that cellular mobile handsets will account for less than 47% of all Bluetooth nodes shipped, compared to 65% forecasted in 2002.
As this shift occurs, ABI predicts that Bluetooth will rapidly make its way into PC-centric, consumer electronics and vertical application market segments. The shift will be facilitated by the large number of players targeting the silicon opportunity for Bluetooth solutions and will create a competitive and innovative silicon market.
