Hittite Microwave opens second international office, — Hittite Microwave, Chelmsford, MA, has opened a second international sales office, Hittite Microwave Deutschland, located in Rosenheim, Germany, about one hour south of Munich. This office will house a staff of sales engineers that will support Hittite's European customer base and will exclusively service Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Philips Semiconductor, Flarion Technologies collaborate to develop ASICs — Philips Semiconductor, Sunnyvale, CA, will design and manufacture application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) that support mobile data rates as high as 3Mb/s to devices supporting Flarion's, Bedminster, NJ, flash-OFDM mobile communications system. Laptop computers, PDAs and smart telephones incorporating these low-power ASICs will bring true broadband mobile services to mass-market users. The ASICs, which handle transmit-signal and receive-signal processing, will be available in early 2002, with availability of flash-OFDM mobile PC cards in the fourth quarter of 2002.

Texas Instruments ships 1.5 million chips to Bluetooth market — Texas Instruments, Dallas, has shipped more than 1.5 million semiconductor chips to clients engaged in the emerging Bluetooth market. According to market analysts IMS, an estimated total of 10 million units of silicon will have been shipped to the worldwide Bluetooth market in 2001.

M/A-COM Selects Agilent Technologies' ADS for design of next-generation products — M/A-COM, Lowell, MA, a unit of Tyco Electronics, has selected the Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) to improve product performance and development times. Agilent and M/A-COM are working closely to develop and test a design translation capability that allows M/A-COM to retain a significant library of designs.

Anadigics ships production volumes of PA chipset for use in Ericsson's TDMA handset — Anadigics, Warren, NJ, announces is shipping production volumes of a power amplifier chipset to Ericsson, Sweden. The new WAP-enabled Ericsson T60d handset for TDMA networks will be powered with two custom-designed Anadigics power amplifiers (PAs) and one of its PA drivers. With voice controls and a joystick for Web navigation, the T60d is the latest addition to Ericsson's dual-band, tri-mode product portfolio for extended range.
