TDK: 5504
TDK Semiconductor introduces a low-cost, high-performance direct conversion receiver (DCR) integrated circuit for digital wireless applications, including digital satellite and VSAT receivers. The device, the 5504 DCR, provides a receiver design with fewer external components than the conventional dual conversion approach. The 5504 DCR is designed to operate over an input frequency range of 950 to 2150 MHz. The device accepts an input signal in this frequency range and down-converts directly to baseband. The local oscillator signal is generated by a completely integrated phase-lock loop that is fully programmable through a standard serial port interface. The technology enables manufacturers to design ICs that reduce the number of external components required for implementing a complete receiver solution while maintaining a high level of performance. This allows customers to reduce manufacturing complexity and cost without jeopardizing system performance. The 5504 DCR is suitable for direct broadcast satellite systems (DBS) where advanced techniques are being used to increase data rates and robustness. The 5504 DCR is available in a 48-lead QFP package. Samples and evaluation boards are currently available. TDK Semiconductor
