Highly Integrated PA Cuts WLAN Footprint

Specifically designed for portable embedded and modular integration applications, the SE2568U PA from SiGe Semiconductor offers the industry’s smallest footprint for embedded 2.4-GHz WLAN functionality, according to the company. It delivers +18-dBm output power at 3% error vector magnitude while integrating a fully matched power amplifier, power detector, 3.2-GHz local oscillator filter, and harmonic filter in a 2-0- by 2.0- by 0.5-mm QFN package.

The device permits direct-to-battery operation from +2.7 to +4.8 V, eliminating the need for on-board voltage regulation. In addition, the new device is CMOS-compatible, so it enables direct logic connections to the baseband functions so there is no need for switching circuitry. The IC also draws only 120 mA.

The SE2568U is sampling now and comes with applications documentation and evaluation boards. It costs $0.38 in quantities of 10,000.
