Tablets Vie For Position In Automotive Infotainment Systems

According to IHS iSuppli researchers, media tablets such as Apple’s iPads show strong potential for use in rear-seat automotive infotainment systems. The firm points to smart phones paving the way for this trend due to one of their main disadvantages: screen size. Smart-phone displays are not adequate for prolonged use, particularly media consumption. Drivers and passengers typically are passive when it comes to content, absorbing information but not creating it. As per Luca De Ambroggi, senior analyst for automotive infotainment at IHS iSuppli, “Tablets offer similar levels of integration as smart phones while sporting a larger screen size more suitable for content and information consumption. This makes tablets an optimal solution for rear seat entertainment.” How simple is that?
