Mobile Internet World 2008 Announces Program

Scheduled for October 21-23 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, Mobile Internet World 2008 will feature more than 150 experts discussing the industry as well as in-depth conference tracks and special programs, all aimed at shaping the devices, content, and applications of the future.

The three-day conference will feature more than a dozen keynote speakers. Bruce Stewart, vice president and general manager of connected life Americas at Yahoo, will kick off the show with “Mobile Advertising: Why Aren’t More Brands on the Go?” Ian McKerlich, director of mobile Web and content services at T-Mobile USA, will follow with “The Android Opportunity: Mobile Internet’s Next Step.”

Additional speakers will include Anthony Lewis, vice president of open development at Verizon Wireless; Rich Miner, executive vice president of mobile at Google; Steve Elfman, president of network operations and wholesale, at Sprint Nextel; Marcelo Vieira, general manager of the OMAP business unit at Texas Instruments; and Len Lauer, executive vice president and group president at Qualcomm.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to attend several special events. For example, the 4G World Executive Summit will examine the evolution of mobile Internet devices and monetizing 4G mobile Internet services. The Mobile Applications and Developers Summit will feature best practice workshops for designing applications for mobile commerce as well as the most effective methods for developing online advertising.

Eight multi-track conference sessions are planned for the show. The Location Based Services program, for example, will look beyond basic navigation and at how enterprises can leverage the technology to improve efficiency. Mobile Enterprise & Security will tackle trends in the enterprise, what’s next for wireless local-area networks, and vertical wireless. Tracks on transactions, content and entertainment, media and advertising, and other topics will round out the selection.

And throughout the hall, expect a lively debate about open-platform standards initiatives and their potential for driving the industry. “Enterprises as well as consumers have anxiously awaited the arrival of open platforms to maximize the potential of the mobile Internet,” said Eliot Weinman, conference founder and chair and president of the events and publishing division of the Yankee Group.
