Android-Powered Phone Syncs Social Sites
Powered by Google’s Android operating system, Motorola’s Cliq 3G smart phone uses the company’s Motorblur solution to manage and integrate communications. Updates to contacts, posts, messages, photos, and more are streamed together and synced from sources like Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and work and personal e-mail. According to Motorola, Motorblur delivers these updates to the home screen in easy-to-view streams so there’s no need to open and close different mobile applications to find the latest content.
The Cliq features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a full 3.1-in. HVGA touchscreen display, and a 5-Mpixel autofocus camera with video capture and playback at 24 fps. It also offers a 3.5-mm headset jack, a music player with a pre-loaded Amazon MP3 store application, Shazam, iMeem Mobile, and a pre-installed 2-Gbyte microSD memory card with support for up to 32 Gbytes of removable memory. It can multitask and offer one-touch access to Google services as well, such as Google Search by voice, Google Maps with Street View, YouTube, and Picasa.

With Motoblur’s Happenings application, users can view all of their social site updates in one spot as they are automatically delivered to the home screen. Users also can quickly scroll through the Messages application for a snapshot of work and personal e-mails, social site messages, and text, with the ability to respond to any message no matter how it was sent. Furthermore, users can update their status on all of their social networks at once while following their favorite news feeds and integrating their calendars, all right from the home screen.
The Motoblur secure server backs up all contacts, log-in information, home screen customizations, e-mail, and social network messages, so there’s no need to worry about misplacing the phone, Motorola says. Lost or stolen phones can be found with integrated A-GPS from the online owner’s portal, and data can even be wiped clean. Users simply enter the account user name and password on their next Motoblur phone, and all the information will be ready and waiting.
Offered by T-Mobile, the Cliq will be available exclusively in the U.S. this fall in titanium and winter white. Pricing will be announced later. Thousands of applications and widgets are available from Motoblur, Android Market, and pre-loaded Google mobile services. In addition to the Cliq in the U.S., Motorblur will be available on the Motorola Dext around the world.
