Fingerprint Sensor Secures PND Family
Personal navigation devices (PNDs) are among the most stolen items in automobiles today. But three PNDs from Medion will provide security as well as directions thanks to AuthenTec’s small-form-factor AES1510 fingerprint sensor. With this technology, only authorized users can activate the GoPal P5235, P5435, and X5535, which are now shipping in select European markets.
The AES1510 can save up to five different user fingerprints. Once users enroll their fingerprints, the PNDs become useless if they’re lost or stolen. The sensor is based on AuthenTec’s TruePrint technology, which reads below the surface of the skin to the live layer where the fingerprint is formed. This RF subsurface approach enables AuthenTec sensors to read virtually every fingerprint every time.
The GoPal P5235, P5435, and X5535 offer 5-in. displays, ultrafast route calculation, and response to input commands including voice control and Traffic Message Channel (TMC) reception. The X5535 includes built-in gyrometer technology to compensate for temporary signal loss. All three PNDs include the AES1510, which the National Society of Professional Engineers named a 2008 Product of the Year.
