Demonstrated the 2011 International CES in Las Vegas, Maxim’s camera platform enables home-monitoring applications from a downloadable smart-phone app. The platform, described as low-cost and easy to deploy, relies on the MAX64180 H.264 video system-on-a-chip (SoC) that combines an H.264 HD high-profile encoder, ARM processor, and necessary peripherals on a single chip together with all system software. Images are viewable over the Internet with a smart-phone browser or the downloadable app. Of note, an entry-level home monitoring camera carries a bill-of-materials (BOM) under $30.
