ID Solution Secures Mobile Payments

The BankID electronic identification and signature solution for mobile phones from Telenor saves security elements on SIM cards, making banking and payment services available to Norwegians no matter where they are in the world. For example, BankID users will be able to log on to their online banking service without their code unit, as long as they have a mobile phone.

The Norwegian banks DnB NOR and Skandiabanken developed BankID together with Telenor. On the banking side, DnB NOR was key in the development process, while Skandiabanken was involved in testing and implementing the solution. Other banks have since joined the BankID Partnership, and their contributions are underway. BBS Infrastruktur is the BankID Partnership’s technical supplier.

The BankID Partnership expects BankID to be used with various Web sites outside of the banking world in situations where there is a need for secure identification and a signature. For instance, customers will be able to use BankID when they shop online or bid on properties, all via their mobile phones. The banks will issue BankID for mobile phones to its consumers.
