Motorola Opens Apps Store In China
Motorola’s SHOP4APPS—or Zhi-Jian-Yuan, which means “place for apps wisdom” in Chinese—will be open by February 14, just in time for the Chinese New Year. It will offer applications designed to customize Android-based Motorola phones in China.
The company also has announced a new feature that lets users customize their Motorola Android devices by selecting their own search provider. Users will be able to select their search experience from a number of providers, including Baidu and others, with whom Motorola has signed strategic agreements.
SHOP4APPS will support the open Android ecosystem. It also will be offered to other manufacturers or partners in China for license. Additionally, Motorola says that SHOP4APPS gives developers a seamless path to promote their applications in the market through Motodev, Motorola’s global developer program, and through other Android development ecosystems.
Developers can submit their Android applications to the SHOP4APPS store at http://developer.motorola.com. SHOP4APPS offers developers a set of resources, starting with tools for testing their applications, as well as marketing and promotional tools for marketing their applications to end users of Android-based devices in China.
According to Motorola, the extremely flexible SHOP4APPS applications delivery platform offers several key features. For example, it can be tailored to present users with the most meaningful applications for them based on their preferences, region, and carrier. Also, purchased apps get stored in the “My Locker” personal storage area, making switching handsets or restoring applications seamless and easy.
