Personal Locator Service Takes Off
Two months after its introduction as an Apple iPhone and Google Android smart-phone application, the PocketFinder service from Location Based Technologies has been downloaded 10,000 times. The PocketFinder was also named the best iPhone personal locator by www.iappcat.com and a Google G1 Android App of the Day by www.gisuser.com.
Location Based Technologies says the PocketFinder is the smallest known single-board GSM/GPS device. It easily fits into a pocket, purse, or backpack and can be accessed via the Internet, cell phone, or landline to show its exact location in real time. In addition, the device includes advanced features, such as designating customizable alert areas as electronic “fences.” For example, it will notify users when a family member or pet leaves the area. The device can also track vehicle speeds.
The iPhone-based PocketFinder is available for download from the iTunes AppStore. The Android-based version (sold exclusively by T-Mobile) is available for download from the Android Market. The PocketFinder family of products will be available in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2009.
