To enable mobile operators to deliver new data-rich TenXc Wireless Inc. has developed a PCS bi-sector array to enhance cell site capacity without changing the existing infrastructure or using higher bandwidths. The PCS bi-sector array exploits intelligent RF optimization, spatial processing and adaptive digital beamforming antenna arrays to provide wireless carriers with the needed capacities to support the rollout of new mobile data-rich services such as music, video and gaming, said Ross Ernst, vice president of marketing.

TenXc’s PCS bi-sector array is a wholly new and unique solution for PCS networks to address capacity and quality challenges found in high-capacity macro cell site applications. The PCS bi-sector array provides additional service capacity using the existing site infrastructure at a fraction of the cost of introducing additional sites. Its direct “drop and insert” design reduces deployment time from months to mere hours, according to the developer. In combination with its distinctive aspects for optimizing network capacity, the PCS bi-sector array is one of the most cost-effective solutions for addressing network congestion today, said the developer.

The bi-sector array applies the principles of higher order sectorization to increase overall site capacity. Its unique asymmetric patterns and single dual-sector panel addresses key network design and implementation issues that, to date, have inhibited operators from moving to higher order sectorization sites. As a result, operators will realize major performance improvements such as; increased network capacity, improved quality of service, and higher throughput for data services.

According to TenXc, the PCS bi-sector array is applicable to the GSM, UMTS and CDMA PCS 1900 markets. It can be used for replacement of existing 65º sector antennas, or in greenfield capacity site deployments. The PCS bi-sector array is best applied in ‘congested spots’ within urban and suburban areas with corresponding high service demand. It serves as a direct antenna substitution at the cell site and makes use of the exiting cable structures and standard base station interconnection and coupling configurations.
