Development Kit Speeds Mobile Multimedia Design
Based on the i.MX27 applications processor, the i.MX27 PDK from Freescale Semiconductor incorporates a modular design that allows a more efficient development process for mobile consumer and industrial applications. Besides a BSP, the comprehensive offering includes robust, product-ready software for the creation of multimedia devices.
The PDK includes:
a CPU module, a single-board computer containing the i.MX27 processor;
a personality module, a peripherals board that manages advanced end-product functionality such as touchscreen capabilities, Ethernet, and USB; and
a debug module, a common interface board for software and applications development, including serial, Ethernet, and JTAG interfaces.
The kit includes an optimized Windows Embedded CE 6.0 or Linux BSP, a multimedia framework, and demo applications, all backed by Freescale’s engineering technical support team. Multimedia codecs are provided as fully functional, product-ready software packages to support various use cases, such as audio/video playback, audio/video record, or image capture/display.
The i.MX27 is designed for a broad range of multimedia applications, such as V2IP cordless and mobile phones, intelligent remote controls, point-of-sale terminals, and many other wireless applications. Based on ARM core technology, the processor uses Freescale’s Smart Speed technology to deliver powerful performance while minimizing power consumption.
The i.MX27 PDK is available now. The recommended resale price is $1500.
