Video amplifiers reduce power consumption
The MAX9509/MAX9510 from Maxim reduce power consumption by operating at 1.8 V. The devices also use DirectDrive technology to generate a clean, internal negative supply. By combining the internal negative power supply with the external positive 1.8 V supply, the devices can drive a 2 VPK-PK video signal into a 150 Ù load.
Operating from the 1.8 V single power supply, these amplifiers use 70% less power than existing solutions; they consume 5.8 mW quiescent power and 11 mW average power. If customers use the 1.8 V digital supply, they can eliminate the analog supply. Offered in a 2 mm x 2 mm TDFN, these amplifiers suit portable applications such as digital still cameras, digital camcorders and mobile phones.
For added design flexibility, the MAX9509/MAX9510 support dc-coupled inputs and can be directly connected to the output of a video DAC. The devices also feature a transparent input sync-tip clamp, allowing ac-coupling of input signals with different dc biases.
The MAX9509 and MAX9510 are priced at $0.49 and $0.45, respectively, for 1000 pieces. The MAX9509 is available in an 8-pin TDFN and the MAX9510 in an 8-pin MicroMAX package. Samples and evaluation kits are also available.
