Microwave switch connector is minute
Murata Electronics North America has released a miniature RF surface-mount switch connector for wireless applications. This miniaturized ceramic component measures only 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.4 mm. The supplier claims that it is the world's smallest. The small footprint is suited for cell phones, smart phones, PDAs, GPSs and measurement equipment. The SWF series is also an excellent fit for advanced devices such as WLAN, WiMax, UWB, Bluetooth and Zigbee technologies, said the maker.
In addition to its small size, the new switch connector's test probes are compatible with the larger SWD series connectors. Therefore, there is no need to change test probes when transitioning to the smaller SWF series, making it easier for engineers to incorporate the connector into designs. Other key features of the switch connector include its wide operating frequency from DC to 6 GHz, which covers all the popular bands, to excellent performance abilities (insertion loss is 0.1dB maximum to 3 GHz and high durability for engagement (100 cycles).
The RoHS-compliant SWF series (MM8130-2600RB8) is available for approximately $0.16 to $0.20 depending on order quantity.
