Vector signal generator goes wireless
Following a strategy of low-cost, high performance RF instrumentation, precisionWave Corp. has launched a new generation of wireless vector signal generator (VSG) for under $10,000.
According to the developer, the vector signal generator p1411A is the world’s first instrument of its kind under $10,000. It delivers excellent phase noise performance, wide power range, and fast reliable electronic switching, the manufacturer claims. The source includes an exclusive spectrum analyzer display along with an internal IQ waveform generator and is available in benchtop or ATE configurations. Serving the 800 MHz and 1700 MHz cellular bands, the p1411A produces high-accuracy EDGE, GSM, IS-95, NADC, PHS, WCDMA and CW signals. User-created IQ waveforms can generate other signal types, specify data content or create worst-case signal scenarios for development and test of RFICs, sub-assemblies, or completed wireless products.
In addition, the VSG’s unique spectrum analyzer display continuously shows the instrument’s output without the use of an expensive external spectrum analyzer. This ensures constant visibility of the source’s output and can be used to preview waveforms prior to selecting them for output. A bright and clear 7-in. TFT display includes a touch panel for easy instrument control without external mouse, stylus or keyboard, though these may be connected if desired. LAN programming and control is robust and intuitive and may also be controlled and monitored from web applications.
Benchtop and ATE instrument configurations are fully interchangeable, resulting in economical software re-use and cross-development between R&D and manufacturing applications. Equipped with an extremely stable, very low phase noise 10 MHz internal frequency reference, the source can accept an external 10 MHz reference signal for synchronization with other devices and test equipment.
The p411A is fully warranted for one year, and is compliant with CE 73/23/EEC and CE 89/336/EEC requirements as amended by CE 93/68/EEC. The instrument conforms to safety standard EN 61010-1 and numerous EMC standards. The precisionWave p1411A is available now with eight-week delivery ARO. It is priced at $9990.
