Ceramic diversity antennas enable high data rates

Pulse, a Technitrol Company, has announced a new line of high-performance ceramic diversity antennas. These antennas enable high-data-rate transmission, yet are small enough to fit in mobile terminals such as new-generation multimedia phones, notebook computers, PDAs, media players, WLAN routers, data cards, and other wireless devices. Their ceramic composition provides a high degree of signal immunity, enabling them to be placed close to other antennas for high-performance diversity operation in small devices. Using diversity antennas in close proximity enables them to be switched within microseconds if one antenna experiences noise, providing improved signal quality with fewer drop-outs.

The series consists of six products: the 850 MHz RX, 900 MHz RX, 1.8 GHz RX, 1.9 GHz RX, 2.1 GHz RX, and 2.4 GHz RX. Based on standard diversity platforms, these lightweight omnidirectional radiation antennas feature low profiles and compact sizes. Sizes are 10 mm x 3.2 mm x 2 mm and 310 mg for the 1.8 GHz, 1.9 GHz, and 2.1 GHz antennas, 10 mm x 3.2 mm x 4 mm and 600 mg for the 850 MHz and 900 MHz, and 3.2 mm x 1.6 mm x 1.1 mm and 33 mg for the 2.4 GHz antennas.

The new line of diversity antennas are RoHS-compliant and are compatible with lead-free, surface-mount processes. All products are field-tested to ensure quality and reliability. Antennas are available in tape-and-reel packaging. Lead-time is six to eight weeks.
