The Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) in San Diego, CA has announced plans to award business services that are designed to speed the commercialization process for technologies dedicated to military, homeland security and first responder operations.

Submitted technologies will undergo a detailed review, evaluation and selection process, after which, selected technologist(s) will be offered tailored transition services such as comprehensive commercialization planning, customized market research, business development, investment networking and other support to facilitate market introduction. All services are performed by CCAT staff in close collaboration with key representatives of the selected organizations to ensure success.

“All too often, promising new cutting-edge technologies that could have a huge impact on solving a critical national defense problem die on the vine for lack of commercialization planning,” said Tom Sheffer, program director for CCAT at San Diego State University (SDSU) Research Foundation. “That's where CCAT comes in — CCAT has extensive experience working with engineering-oriented laboratories and research companies that have limited resources to assist in successfully getting their technologies into the market.”

Award recipients will be announced at the end of January 2007.

The Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) is supported by Congress and funded by the Department of Defense as a public-private collaborative partnership among academia, industry and government. With centers located at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) and San Diego State University, the CCAT program provides funding and business development support services to small entrepreneurs, small businesses, and government/university research scientists that have developed technology for use by the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, as well as the commercial marketplace. Additional program partners include the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Jacobs School of Engineering, von Liebig Center, CONNECT and The Security Network with support from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego.
