Research company awarded $20 million naval contract
Alion Science and Technology has been awarded a contract by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Sea Warfare and Weapons Department, Ships Systems and Engineering division. Alion will provide expertise to support advanced naval power systems, platform survivability and advanced platform concepts. The contract covers one base year and four option years and could be worth up to $20 million.
Alion will work on electrical systems, fuel cells, advanced electrical machinery and high-efficiency thermoelectric concepts for use on ships and submarines. Alion will also support the development of next-generation electric motors for ship propulsion on the Navy's newest, most advanced ships. One area of focus will be on platform “signatures,” crucial to the overall design of “stealthy” naval platforms.
